Overview
We are seeking a creative, passionate Outdoor Educator for our unique early years urban forest school program.
Hours are Monday-Thursday, 8:45am - 12:45pm for a total of 16 hours per week. Start date for this position is January 5, 2026 and the program finishes for the year on June 25, 2026. (We follow the school year and will resume again in Sept. 2026).
Muddy Boot Prints. (TM) - Early Learning Outside Vancouver Chapter is a fully outdoor morning program for preschool-aged children.We rotate biweekly between four East Vancouver locations—Clark Park, Renfrew Ravine, Trout Lake, and Strathcona Community Gardens—offering rich and varied outdoor experiences across beloved community parks. Rain or shine, we embrace the elements, fostering a deep sense of place, resilience, and joyful outdoor play.
Duties
The Co-Teacher is a passionate and reflective educator who supports the children in our care in multiple ways.
Safety
- Assists the Lead teacher in carrying out daily and dynamic risk assessments.
- Continuously scans and counts the children for the program duration.
- Confidently and calmly guides children using positive guidance strategies.
Programming
- Works actively and collaboratively with the Lead Teacher to support children's play in nature.
- Works actively and collaboratively with the Lead Teacher to create emergent curriculum that reflects the children's interests, needs and inquiries.
- Brings books to share at daily story times on a regular basis.
- Assists the Lead Teacher in guiding children through transitions during the morning.
- Works actively with the Lead Teacher to choose and teach songs for bi-annual shows for families.
- Meets every child where they are at and supports their social emotional growth using a variety of developmentally appropriate strategies.
Documentation
- Shares daily photos and brief stories in our parent WhatApp group.
- Uploads photos to Dropbox folders which are shared with families.
Experience
- ECE Diploma (or working towards one)
- Outdoor education experience is preferred but not necessary
- Valid First Aid Certificate
- Valid Criminal Record Check
- At least 2 years of experience working with preschool-aged children
- Confidence with positive behaviour guidance strategies
- Passionate about collaborating to provide creative, developmentally-appropriate experiences in nature for young children
- A love of nature and the outdoors
- Demonstrated ability to form positive relationships with children and families
- Comfortable working in all weather as we operate rain or shine
Qualifications:
Basic ECE
Additional Qualifications:
Valid First Aid Certification
Valid Criminal Record Check
Years Experience Required:

Required Experience:
At least 2 years of experience working with young children
Familiarity with positive behaviour guidance strategies
Demonstrated ability to plan creative, engaging outdoor curriculum based on children's interests and inquiries
Comfortable working outside in all weather
Salary & Benefits:
$26-$28 depending on experience. Please note that as we are a fully outdoor program and therefore ineligible for licensing, we are unable to offer the wage enhancement on top of this.
