Kishkayhtaytaahk! (Let’s Learn!) Childcare Centre is a new early learning program rooted in Métis culture, located in downtown Terrace, BC. Fully funded by Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC), the centre offers 12 Infant/Toddler spaces, 24 spaces for children aged 3–5, and 8 School Age Care spaces, all within easy access to public transit.

Our mission is to deliver inclusive, high-quality early learning that honors Métis traditions, supports families, and fosters lifelong wellbeing. Our vision is a sustainable centre where Métis language, land-based learning, and intergenerational teachings enrich every child’s experience.

Job Summary

As an Infant Toddler Certified Early Childhood Educator, you will support the delivery of play-based, culturally grounded programs rooted in Métis values for the Infant/Toddler classroom. Collaborating with fellow educators and engaging with families, you will help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where children and families feel valued and connected.

Reports to: Childcare Facility Manager

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide nurturing, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate care for infants and toddlers.
  • Incorporate Métis culture, stories, language, and values into daily routines and learning experiences.
  • Support children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development through play-based activities.
  • Build respectful, trusting relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with other educators to create a welcoming and culturally responsive learning environment.
  • Observe and document children’s learning and help adapt programming to meet their needs.
  • Follow all health, safety, and licensing requirements in daily practice.

Qualifications:

Post Basic ECE

Additional Qualifications:

Qualifications, Education and Experience:

  • BC Early Childhood Educator (ECE) License– Infant/Toddler Certified (required)
  • Emergency Child Care First Aid & CPR/AED Level B
  • Clear Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector)
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge & understanding of BC Early Learning Framework and Indigenous & Métis Early Learning and Child Care Frameworks
  • Understanding of BC Child Care Licensing Regulations
  • Collaborative team player with a passion for culturally grounded early learning
  • Asset: Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and attachment-based approaches (e.g., Circle of Security)

Salary & Benefits:

Wages: $25-30 per hour, based on experience and qualifications (*not eligible for wage enhancement)
