Kishkayhtaytaahk! (Let’s Learn!) Childcare Centre is a new early learning program rooted in Métis culture, located in downtown Terrace, BC. Fully funded by Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC), the centre offers 12 Infant/Toddler spaces, 24 spaces for children aged 3–5, and 8 School Age Care spaces, all within easy access to public transit.

Our mission is to deliver inclusive, high-quality early learning that honors Métis traditions, supports families, and fosters lifelong wellbeing. Our vision is a sustainable centre where Métis language, land-based learning, and intergenerational teachings enrich every child’s experience.

Job Summary:

As Manager, you will oversee daily operations, provide leadership and support to educators, and ensure licensing compliance. You will foster a welcoming, inclusive environment grounded in Métis values and work closely with families. Through mentorship and collaboration, you will help create a culturally rich, play-based learning space where children and families feel supported. In this role, you will report to and collaborate with Wâhkôhtowin Child Care Society (WCCS) to ensure alignment with the centre’s mission, values, and community partnerships.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations and deliver high-quality, culturally grounded Métis programming
  • Lead, mentor, and support staff while ensuring compliance with licensing, health and safety standards
  • Build strong family relationships and connect them to community supports
  • Manage administration, including scheduling, reporting, budgeting, and board updates
  • Operate the School Age Care van (Class 4 training available)
  • Foster an inclusive, welcoming environment

  • Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Understanding of Métis and other Indigenous cultures and communities is an asset
  • Ability to mentor and support staff effectively
  • Understanding of licensing, health, and safety standards
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable
  • Commitment to inclusive, culturally grounded practices

Qualifications:

Basic ECE

Required Experience:

  • BC ECE Certificate (required); Infant/Toddler designation an asset
  • Emergency Child Care First Aid with CPR/AED (Level B)
  • Clear Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector)
  • Legally eligibility to work in Canada
  • Strong communication and team leadership skills
  • Knowledge of BC Early Learning Framework and Indigenous & Métis Early Learning and Child Care Frameworks
  • Understanding of BC Child Care Licensing Regulations
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Asset: Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and attachment-based approaches (e.g., Circle of Security)

Salary & Benefits:

Wages: $30 – $36 per hour (*not eligible for wage enhancement)
