Early Childhood Educator Needed – Pender Island, BC

Are you a certified Early Childhood Educator with at least one year of experience? Join our team on beautiful Pender Island, part of the Southern Gulf Islands. Bonus points if you have your Infant and Toddler certification but not required.

While housing is not included with this position, we’re happy to assist with local rental leads. Please note: island living isn’t for everyone. Pender Island is a rural and close-knit community of approximately 2,300 residents—perfect for those who value nature, tranquility, and a slower pace of life.

Our emergent, child-led early learning curriculum fosters both personal growth and a strong sense of community for the children in our care. Learning unfolds in group settings across infant and toddler, and preschool (3–5 years).

Required Experience:

We’re seeking a certified educator with at least three years of experience in licensed child care who is confident in creating nurturing, play-based learning environments. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and collaboration skills and a demonstrated ability to support the diverse developmental needs of young children. You will be working under the guidance of a senior ECE and management. We require: 

  • Demonstrated experience supporting, guiding, and caring for children in a licensed child care setting

  • Commitment to delivering high-quality programming aligned with BC’s Early Learning Framework

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative and respectful approach

  • Understanding of and respect for individual and cultural diversity, including a commitment to Truth and Reconciliation

  • Experience working in small communities and/or within non-profit organizations considered an asset

  • Sufficient physical stamina and energy to meet the daily demands of child care work. Child care work involves standing for long periods, sitting on floor or in small chairs, bending over to help children toilet or dress, safely supervising the children on out trips and during outdoor play as well as leading some daily physical education components of the program.

  • You must be able to communicate proficiently in English
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification, and a clear Criminal Record Check required prior to employment

  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with families and caregivers

  • Maintain a clean and safe learning environment through light housekeeping duties

Salary & Benefits:

Our wages are competitive, based on education and experience and come with professional development opportunities. $22-$26 hour before the ECE WE Program Depending on experience.

The Epicentre is operated by the Southern Gulf Islands Neighbourhood House, a non-profit organization based on Pender Island that supports families across Pender, Mayne, Saturna, and Galiano Islands. Located next to the Pender Island Library, The Epicentre boasts expansive outdoor play areas and a newly renovated facility filled with brand new equipment and toys.

Pender Island is a small, close-knit community of approximately 2,300 residents. While rural and more remote in nature, it is well-connected to Victoria and Vancouver via BC Ferries. Life here offers a slower pace and a strong sense of community—perfect for someone who values nature, connection, and a meaningful lifestyle. Despite its size, Pender has a full-service grocery store, a medical clinic with doctors, a dentist, pharmacy, chiropractor, massage therapists, and a liquor store, along with a vibrant array of community events and recreational activities.

Please note: a personal vehicle is required for this position, as there is no public transportation on the island. Candidates should be comfortable with rural living and ferry-based travel.
